Graduate Housing

While many graduate students choose to live off campus, housing options exist both on and off campus. Information is available here.

On-campus housing

For single students

The University of Notre Dame has a limited number of single- and multiple-occupancy rooms and apartments available on campus for single students. As an indication of the University's housing costs, two-bedroom apartments and townhouses which accommodate four students are available for single graduate students in the new Fischer complex for $4,819 per 9 month lease (deposit is $460), and at O'Hara-Grace the lease is $3,998 per 9 month lease (deposit is $357). Board and laundry privileges are available as options.

For married students and students with families

University Village is an apartment complex which has units that are available to married students and their families. It is operated by the University and is in close proximity of the campus. A two-bedroom apartment at University Village rents for $465 per month and requires a one month deposit.

Cripe street apartments are for married students with no children. They rent for $569/month require a one month deposit.

Off-campus housing

There are also many off-campus, non-University rooms and apartments available within a three-mile radius of the campus. Monthly rates for off-campus apartments (1-bedroom) range from $380-$650, and houses range from $550 to $1,800 per month. Rooms in off-campus houses are also available with costs ranging from $200 to $600 per month.

Meal Plans

All students, whether they reside on- or off-campus, have the opportunity to purchase several different meal plans called blocks and / or flex points. These prices range from $520 to $2,060 per semester.

Other important information to consider:

The academic year at Notre Dame normally begins during the final week of August. The last day of classes is around mid-December and the semester concludes with a week of final examinations.

For graduate students who enter the Chemical Engineering program in the spring, the semester begins in mid-January and classes run through mid-May. The summer months are devoted to full-time, thesis-related research.
