Admissions & Financial Aid
The Department's doctoral program offers financially attractive research assistantships, which include a generous stipend, full tuition waiver, and a health insurance subsidy.
An M.S. degree is not need in order to apply to the Ph.D. program. Doctoral students have the option of obtaining a M.S. while pursuing the Ph.D.
While most applicants for the graduate program have an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, this is not necessarily a requirement. The field of chemical engineering is broad in its scope, so applicants who hold degrees in chemistry, physics, mathematics, materials science, or any engineering discipline are encouraged to apply. Students admitted to our program with such backgrounds are normally required to complete some undergraduate chemical engineering courses. The exact program is tailored to each applicant's previous training.
The Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering requires three letters of recommendation, a GRE score, a CV/resume, and an unofficial transcript. The TEOFL score is required for those in which English is not their first language. The department does not have any minimum score requirements, except for the TOEFL score requirements posed by the Graduate School. For applicants who have completed work beyond a bachelor's degree, records of both graduate and undergraduate work are taken into account.
All graduate applications are online and centralized through the Office of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions, with decisions being made by individual departments. To begin the application process, go to the graduate school admissions gateway.
The application deadline for fall admission is January 15th. Under certain situations, applications received after January 15th may still be considered. Please contact the CBE Department at email@example.com if for some reason you cannot meet the January 15th deadline. Offers of admission and financial aid may be made in advance of January 15th, if a completed application is on file. Applications can be submitted with unofficial GRE and TOEFL scores before the official scores are sent by the exam system. Applications may be submitted before receipt of scores or recommendation letters and will be reviewed once it is complete.
The Office of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions will not process an application until the $75 application fee has been received. The application fee is automatically waived for all US citizens and permanent residents. Non-US citizens who are enrolled in a degree program or have received a degree from a US institution should contact Anne Veselik at firstname.lastname@example.org before completion of the online application to arrange for a possible fee waiver.
All applicants are required to take the GRE General Test (verbal, quantitative and analytical). Test dates are available throughout the year and may be scheduled through ETS, the independent testing agency that conducts the testing. To get desired test dates and to ensure that scores are recieved in a timely fashon, early registration is recommended.
