Experience
I received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in May 2004. I then began working at GE Consumer and Industrial’s Lighting Division in Cleveland, Ohio. While working, I continued my studies and received a Master of Engineering degree from Case Western Reserve University in May 2006.
I am currently working at GE Consumer & Industrial’s Lighting Division. I recently graduated from the Edison Engineering Development Program, an introductory program for new-hire engineers. While on the program, I rotated through four different engineering jobs over the course of two years. All of my rotations were within the Lighting Division, and I learned very much about the various product lines and job types. I am now in a permanent role as a Systems Engineer for the High Intensity Discharge Lighting team.
I have stayed involved with recruiting engineers at Notre Dame, and I really enjoy finding new ND talent to join the GE team.
Notre Dame prepared me exceptionally well for working in a design-oriented field. I find that the problem-solving skills that Notre Dame professors helped me to develop have well suited me for facing design and quality issues in the workplace. I have not only been prepared to confront problems and issues, but to offer creative new ideas and innovative solutions to always be making things better.
The Chemical Engineering department at Notre Dame also helps students to become aware of the importance of our engineering decisions and how they truly will have an impact on the world as our generation defines it. I learned to look beyond applying engineering principles, and instead I look to achieve the greater goal of making the world a better place. Notre Dame’s Chemical Engineering department helped me to realize this important goal, and I now try to keep it in mind every day.
