Experience
The Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department at Notre Dame provides a wonderful environment for learning. The faculty is comprised of highly accomplished researchers who maintain a strong devotion to teaching and are committed to preparing students for life after graduation.
Professors encourage questions and are happy to provide extra help outside the scheduled lecture hours. They are also receptive to unique, individual interests of their students. For me, this personal attention meant a chance to engage in undergraduate research and the opportunity to spend a semester in London.
After obtaining my B. S. in 2001, I joined Schering-Plough, a pharmaceutical company based in New Jersey. I began my career in technical operations, holding several positions of increasing responsibility. I have since transitioned into research and development, where my current functions include designing commercial-scale manufacturing processes and implementing these processes at our production facilities.
The academic rigor of my undergraduate education has served me well, particularly as I continue my schooling, on a part-time basis, at the graduate level. Taking advantage of my company’s educational sponsorship program, I completed a Masters degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2003 and am now continuing graduate study in Chemical Engineering at Rutgers University
The majority of my specific, day-to-day responsibilities at work have been learned on-the-job as opposed to in the classroom. However, a solid foundation in scientific reasoning and engineering problem solving remains at the root of all I do. My abilities in this respect I greatly attribute to my time at Notre Dame.
