Hernan Delgado, a Ph.D. graduate in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has received the Eli J. and Helen Shaheen Graduate Student Award.
The Shaheen Award recognizes one graduating Ph.D. student in each of the four divisions of the Notre Dame Graduate School. Students are honored for excellence in grades, research and publications, fellowships, or other awards, teaching, and mentoring.
Delgado has an outstanding record of publications and conference presentations, with papers appearing in a variety of journals, including Langmuir and Journal of Applied Physics. He was recognized for research excellence in plasma-liquid interactions, work he conducted as part of the Go Research Group.
He also showed his dedication to teaching the next generation of technological leaders by working as an undergraduate and high school research mentor. He recently was a finalist for the American Vacuum Society’s Coburn and Winters Student Award in Plasma Science and Technology, one of the premier awards for graduate students in his discipline.
“Hernan is an exemplar of the successful graduate student — originating and producing impactful research, mentoring younger researchers, contributing to the vibrant intellectual community at Notre Dame, and being an engaged and thoughtful member of the larger community,” said David B. Go, Rooney Family Collegiate Professor, chair of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, and Delgado’s advisor. “I have no doubt he will succeed in the next phase of his career.”
Delgado, who graduated in May 2021, will begin a position as a postdoctoral scholar at Argonne National Laboratory, studying the economic impacts and viability of renewable energy technologies.
